Basketball Recap: Crest Takes a Loss

Crest was the 65-59 winner over Huss when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Crest Chargers fell to the Huss Huskies 90-84. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (72), the Chargers still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Crest lost on Tuesday, don't look at Lyrik Pettis. Despite the final result, he went 15-for-27 en route to 36 points in addition to six boards and five assists. The game was Pettis' eighth in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was D'Various Surratt, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 19 points and eight assists.

Even though they lost, Crest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive matches.

Huss found their leader in freshman Jaleel Smith, who went 14-for-20 on his way to 40 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Smith is becoming a predictor of Huss' success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is 15-5 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Antonio Worthy was another key player, going 9-for-15 en route to 23 points.

Crest's record now sits at 19-3. As for Huss, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Crest does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Huss, they are taking a road trip to challenge Ashbrook at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Ashbrook knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 22 games -- so hopefully Huss likes a good challenge.
