Volleyball Recap: Mesquite's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

If Mesquite was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Marcos de Niza on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats fell just short of the St. Mary's Knights by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. The Wildcats' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Mesquite took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 15-25, 23-25, 25-13, 15-10.

Caprice Charlie paced Mesquite's offense, picking up 14 kills. Charlie got some help from Cami White and her 36 assists. White was also solid from the service line: she led the team with five aces.

Mesquite's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 24-6. As for St. Mary's, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-8.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Mesquite is set to take on their familiar foe Arcadia at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, St. Mary's will face off against rival Cactus Shadows at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
