Basketball Recap: Karsyn Smalley's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Breckenridge over Early

Breckenridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 64-43 to the Early Longhorns. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Buckaroos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 51-15 back in December of 2024.

Breckenridge lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Karsyn Smalley, who posted 17 points in addition to seven steals and five boards. The dominant performance gave Smalley a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Ruthie Valdez, who had eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Breckenridge's record now sits at 2-27. As for Early, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-11 record this season.

Breckenridge will head out on the road to challenge Dublin at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Breckenridge is facing Dublin at the right time seeing as Dublin is stuck on a six-game losing streak. Early has already played their next game (against Eastland), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
