Basketball Recap: Vernon Comes Up Short

On Wednesday, the Vernon Vikings were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 52-48 to the Ridge Red Devil. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Red Devil are ranked 22nd).

This is the second loss in a row for Vernon and nudges their season record down to 10-9. As for Ridge, they pushed their record up to 20-6 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Vernon will challenge Dumont on February 27th. As for Ridge, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against South Plainfield at 11:30 a.m.
