Baseball Game Preview: Big Sandy Wildcats vs. Yantis Owls

The Big Sandy Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Yantis Owls at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Big Sandy has three straight victories, Yantis has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Big Sandy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Fruitvale with a sharp 20-12 win on Friday. Considering the Wildcats have won four games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Big Sandy got a massive performance out of Logan Brown, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 4-for-4. Brown is becoming a predictor of Big Sandy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cole Orms, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Big Sandy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Yantis faced off against Como-Pickton on Friday. Yantis lost 13-2 to Como-Pickton.

Yantis' loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Big Sandy, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 5-6.

Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Big Sandy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .484.
