Softball Recap: Ellis vs. Leechburg Blue Devils

Ellis extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-5 in the process. They lost 17-4 to the Leechburg Blue Devils. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Leechburg this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 on April 7th.

Ellis saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaelyn Lyons, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Elyse Brennan also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

As for Leechburg, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3. Considering they have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Leechburg's side, Trinity Kimble made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. In other batting news, Leechburg got a massive performance out of Danica Sopcak, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Sopcak has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Emily Talarico was another key player, going 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ellis will take on Greensburg Central Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Leechburg, they will face off against Serra Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
