Maumee is 0-4 against Oak Harbor since April of 2023 but things could change on Wednesday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Rockets at 4:30 p.m. Maumee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
If Maumee beats Oak Harbor with 15 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Everything went the Panthers' way against Rossford on Monday as they made off with a 15-3 win. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Hannah Ruiz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Julia Coutcher was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Reign Hurt was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Oak Harbor ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Eastwood 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rockets have posted since April 1, 2024.
Morgan Lalonde spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.
At the plate, Karder Haas was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Hannah Schimmoeller, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Oak Harbor has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Maumee, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Maumee hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Oak Harbor struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
