Softball Recap: Portage Triumphs

Portage won the last time they faced Conemaugh Township and things went their way on Thursday too. The Mustangs came out on top against the Indians by a score of 6-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Kendall Stancovich made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Mikaila McCoy was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Lyndsey Castel was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Portage was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Portage's victory bumped their record up to 2-12. As for Conemaugh Township, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Portage is set to take on their familiar foe Conemaugh Valley at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Conemaugh Township will face off against rival Cambria Heights at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
