Softball Recap: Crest Extends Winning Streak to Five

Crest waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They never let the Gilbert Indians get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.

Aidan Ledbetter made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Madison Crocker was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Josi Downey, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Crest's win bumped their record up to 17-2. As for Gilbert, with the defeat, they broke their 14-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-2.

Coming up, Crest will challenge Kings Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on the 24th. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Chargers 2.5, the Mountaineers 0.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Gilbert, they will face off against Midlakes at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The Screaming Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.83 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
