Cesar Chavez hasn't had much luck against Tucson High Magnet School recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Champions will venture away from home to face off against the Badgers at 6:00 p.m. Cesar Chavez is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Cesar Chavez made easy work of Camelback and carried off a 16-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Champions in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won three in a row.

The team relied heavily on Carlos Leon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Cesar Chavez's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-9 when he doesn't). Eddie Pedroza was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Cesar Chavez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .735. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Tucson High Magnet School came tearing into Wednesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Jaguars.
Juan Hernandez was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Alan Krimpe was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jorge Castro, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Cesar Chavez's record now sits at 16-9. As for Tucson High Magnet School, their record is now 14-11.
Cesar Chavez came up short against Tucson High Magnet School when the teams last played back in April of 2019, falling 5-0. Can the Champions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
