Basketball Recap: Marietta Takes a Loss

Marietta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 61-58 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cherokee Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Warriors are ranked seventh).

Despite the defeat, Marietta saw an underclassman step up: freshman Leah DeWitt dropped a double-double on 31 points and 14 rebounds. The match was DeWitt's 21st in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mckenzie Everett, who went 5 of 12 en route to 13 points and five boards.

Marietta's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Cherokee, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 18-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marietta will take on North Cobb at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Marietta is facing North Cobb at the right time seeing as North Cobb is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Cherokee, they will face off against North Paulding at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Cherokee has won 16 straight at home dating back to last season, while North Paulding won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
