Nonnewaug and Shepaug Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Chiefs are taking a road trip to challenge the Spartans at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Nonnewaug is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Nonnewaug came up short against Seymour and fell 4-1. The Chiefs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jayden Cardenas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Nonnewaug saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Derek Chung, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three contests, Shepaug Valley finally came back down to earth on Thursday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Platt. The Spartans' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Shepaug Valley's loss dropped their record down to 14-3. As for Nonnewaug, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-5.

Nonnewaug suffered a grim 13-5 defeat to Shepaug Valley in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Chiefs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
