Baseball Recap: Thursday's Win Is New Lexington's Seventh in Last Nine Outings

New Lexington came out on top against Waverly on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Panthers walked away with a 5-0 win over the Tigers. This was payback for the Panthers, who suffered a 3-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Not much got past Tanner Toth, who gave up just three hits to keep Waverly off the board. Toth also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because New Lexington is 4-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 8-9 otherwise.

At the plate, New Lexington's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Gottke, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

New Lexington is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Waverly, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12-1.

As of now, neither New Lexington nor the Tigers have any future games scheduled.
