Softball Recap: Clearfield Takes a Loss

Clearfield extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-4 in the process. They lost 8-1 to the Forest Hills Rangers. The matchup marked the Bison's lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

As for Forest Hills, their win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.0 runs this season.

For Forest Hills' part, Avery Smiach was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Smiach has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Ana Spangler was incredible, firing off two home runs while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Morgan Gdula was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Coming up, Clearfield will welcome Penns Valley Area at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Bison's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Forest Hills, they will head out to face off against Westmont Hilltop at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
