Softball Recap: Lewis County Gets the Win

Lewis County's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers 8-6. The Minutemen have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Buccaneers, too.

Ashley Crook made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaelyn Smith, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Emma Harris also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Lewis County lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Lewis County's record now sits at 5-2. As for Buckhannon-Upshur, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lewis County will host Fairmont Senior at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Minutemen's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Polar Bears have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Buckhannon-Upshur, they will welcome Elkins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Buccaneers are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
