Basketball Recap: Lake Lure Classical Academy Takes a Loss

Lake Lure Classical Academy lost against Carolina Day back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Lake Lure Classical Academy Raptors received a blow as they fell 56-41 to the Carolina Day Wildcats. The Raptors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Lake Lure Classical Academy still got an impressive performance from Landry Mize, who went 8 of 14 on her way to 23 points and six rebounds. The contest was Mize's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amiyah Whiteside, who posted 11 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Lake Lure Classical Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.

Leading Carolina Day to victory were Keana Smith and Layla Hunter. Smith dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Hunter dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten assists. Those ten assists gave Hunter a new career-high. Valley Kitt was another key player, putting up ten points and six boards.

Lake Lure Classical Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Carolina Day, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Lure Classical Academy will venture away from home to take on Haywood Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. As for Carolina Day, they are taking a road trip to face off against Challenger at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
