Softball Recap: William Blount Takes a Loss

William Blount had lost five straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 16-10 to make it six. They came up short against the Christian Academy of Knoxville Warriors, falling 11-2. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Governors, who fell 9-7 when the teams last met back in April of 2015.

William Blount saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blaine Bell, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

As for Christian Academy of Knoxville, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Considering they have won ten matches by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Christian Academy of Knoxville's side, Ella Borbeck and Emily Bogoski made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Borbeck pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Bogoski pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Borbeck has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Borbeck went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Bogoski went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Borbeck has posted over her last eight games.

In other batting news, Gracie Kringen was excellent, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Halle Bedwell, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, William Blount will venture away from home to square off against Farragut at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Christian Academy of Knoxville, they have already played their next contest, a 6-5 win against Grace Christian Academy on the 24th.
