Basketball Game Preview: Walsh Eagles vs. La Veta Redhawks

Walsh hasn't had much luck against La Veta recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Walsh Eagles just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the La Veta Redhawks at 2:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Walsh is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Thursday. They had to suffer through a 60-33 loss at the hands of Holly.

Meanwhile, La Veta suffered their closest defeat since February 16, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Sierra Grande by a score of 40-38. The Redhawks' loss continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Walsh will have to keep a close watch on Marianna De La Cruz and Aspen Autry, a pair of players who had a big impact on La Veta's prior game. De La Cruz went 9-for-16 to rack up 18 points and seven boards, while Autry went 6-for-11 en route to 12 points. The dominant performance gave De La Cruz a new career-high in points.

Walsh's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for La Veta, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.

Walsh came up short against La Veta when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 50-37. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Autry, who dropped a double-double with 33 points and 13 steals.
