Softball Recap: Westville Has No Trouble Against Kouts

Westville had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Kouts on Monday. The Blackhawks were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Mustangs & Fillies. The Blackhawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Mustangs & Fillies, too.

Kierstin Vargas made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miranda Sparks, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kiersten Vaughan, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and one double.

Westville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kouts only posted a batting average of .160.

Westville's record now sits at 5-1. As for Kouts, their loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-6.

Westville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 4-1 win against Culver Community on the 30th. As for Kouts, they have also already played their next match, a 17-1 victory against Tri-Township on the 2nd.
