Basketball Recap: Southwest Dekalb Now 10-1 over Last 11 Games

It was a proper cat-fight when Southwest DeKalb took on Tucker on Tuesday. The Southwest DeKalb Panthers came out on top against the Tucker Tigers by a score of 58-49. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Tigers are ranked 91st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Southwest DeKalb's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Messiah Mergan led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Mergan a new career-high in boards. Kelvin Peek, III was another key player, putting up ten points and four blocks.

Southwest DeKalb smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Southwest DeKalb is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-2 record this season. As for Tucker, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-5.
