Basketball Recap: Manning's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Manning entered their match against East Clarendon on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Manning Monarchs fell just short of the East Clarendon Wolverines by a score of 50-47. The Monarchs' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Manning lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ameerah Conyers, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. Conyers is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aysia Moore, who posted 16 points.

East Clarendon was led to victory by Payton Hanniford and Cherish Cochran. Hanniford scored eight points and 22 rebounds, while Cochran had 15 points and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kierstin Woods, who put up four points and seven boards.

Manning's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-11. As for East Clarendon, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-9.

Manning wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 51-44 loss against Kingstree on the 28th. East Clarendon has also already played their next game, a 52-37 defeat against Lake City on the 27th.
