Basketball Recap: Newport Takes a Loss

After flying high against Seaside on Friday, Newport came back down to earth. The Newport Cubs took a 52-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Stayton Eagles on Saturday. The loss was the Cubs' first of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Newport fell to 3-1. As for Stayton, the victory was the fourth in a row (dating back to last season) for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newport will take on North Bend in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Stayton and Cottage Grove will compete for holiday cheer at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
