Softball Game Preview: Menard Yellowjackets vs. Medina Bobcats

The Menard Yellowjackets will venture away from home to take on the Medina Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Menard has given up an average of 18 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Menard is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Mason, falling 21-11.

Tatum Ruiz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Whittiker, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Ruiz wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Menard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Medina lost 22-6 to Randolph on Friday. The Bobcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Audrey Gatlin and Hallie Kunz did some serious damage despite the final result: Gatlin scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3, while Kunz scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Crista Zirkel was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Medina's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Menard, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Menard has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .642. However, it's not like Medina struggles in that department as they've averaged .596. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Menard couldn't quite get it done against Medina when the teams last played back in February of 2021 as they fell 8-5. Can Menard avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
