Softball Game Preview: South Oldham Dragons vs. Simon Kenton Pioneers

The South Oldham Dragons will face off against the Simon Kenton Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

South Oldham's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Trimble County with a sharp 13-0 win. Considering the Dragons have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaylee Fitzner made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Fitzner was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Grace Turner was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mya Pasley, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, Simon Kenton had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Friday. They walked away with a 14-11 victory over the Raiders.

Simon Kenton's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for South Oldham, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.

South Oldham was able to grind out a solid victory over Simon Kenton when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 11-7. Will the Dragons repeat their success, or do the Pioneers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
