Softball Preview: Grayson County Cougars vs. Metcalfe County Hornets

The Grayson County Cougars will face off against the Metcalfe County Hornets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Grayson County took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against North Hardin, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars came out on top in a nail-biter against the Trojans on Tuesday, sneaking past 7-5. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Ellie Bratcher was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Elizabeth Haycraft and Jacie Alexander did most of the damage at the plate: Haycraft went 1-for-4 with four RBI and one double, while Alexander went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave Alexander a new career-high.
