Basketball Recap: Woonsocket Takes a Loss

Woonsocket was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss. They took a 55-41 bruising from the Pilgrim Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Villa Novans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while the Patriots are ranked eighth).

When it comes to explaining why Woonsocket lost, don't look at Angel Hernandez. Despite the final result, he went 5 of 8 en route to 17 points and three steals. That's the most points Hernandez has posted since back in February of 2024. Isaiah Guertin was another key player, putting up nine points.

Woonsocket's defeat dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Pilgrim, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Woonsocket wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 53-34 loss against Mt. Pleasant on the 25th. Pilgrim has also already played their next match, a 50-47 defeat against Toll Gate on the 27th.
