Basketball Game Preview: El Capitan Gauchos vs. Atwater Falcons

The El Capitan Gauchos will take on the Atwater Falcons at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. El Capitan knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Atwater likes a good challenge.

On Saturday, El Capitan earned a 60-47 win over Independence.

Meanwhile, after a string of nine wins, Atwater's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 55-44 to Golden Valley. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Falcons came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Cougars are ranked 277th).

Atwater's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-2. As for El Capitan, their victory bumped their record up to 12-7.

El Capitan came up short against Atwater in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 58-48. Can El Capitan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
