Baseball Recap: Woodside Comes Up Short

After flying high against Heritage last Thursday, Woodside came back down to earth. The Wolverines took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Denbigh Patriots on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolverines of the 15-9 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Mason Mompoint made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-3. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Woodside is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Anthony Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Woodside now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Denbigh, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-5.

While Woodside had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
