3A Region 7 recap Oct. 23, 2012
Hazlehurst extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region 7 this week by beating Jefferson County, 30-17. The win marks 10th in a row for the the Indians.
Franklin County led the league in scoring this week after putting up 38 points on Prentiss.
Wilkinson County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. D'Wayne Anthony threw for 67 yards and Trae McKenzie had 55 yards receiving. On the ground Nicholas Hull chipped in 81 yards. Damon Mcmorris helped Wilkinson County's passing attack out by catching two balls for 40 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Kenneth Coleman and Demetrius Cain Hazlehurst has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Coleman leads the league in passing with 1446 yards, while Cain has rushed for 840 yards this season. The Wildcats' Allenzae Staggers leads the league in receiving yards with 654 on 41 catches.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Randal Montgomery's team takes on Crystal Springs. At the moment, the Indians are in first, while the Tigers are in fifth.
