Softball Recap: Loyola Academy Finds Playoff Glory Versus Hersey

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Loyola Academy walked away with it. They skirted past the Hersey Huskies 4-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-2 two weeks ago.

Hunter Lewis made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 21 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

Loyola Academy pushed their record up to 17-15 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Hersey, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 19-11 record this season.

Loyola Academy will face off against Mundelein at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Ramblers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. Hersey does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
