Baseball Recap: Girard Takes a Loss

Girard came into this matchup off a tough six-run loss on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Conneaut Area Eagles by a score of 7-5 on Thursday. The Yellowjackets have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Zak Balogh put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Balogh was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Balogh wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sam Schepers, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Schepers has hit this season.

Girard's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Conneaut Area, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season.

Girard will be playing in front of their home fans against Fort LeBoeuf at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bison have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.86 runs per game on average), something the Yellowjackets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Conneaut Area, they will head out on the road to challenge Slippery Rock at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Rockets will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
