Baseball Game Preview: Dayton Pirates vs. Scio Loggers

For the second straight game, Dayton will face off against Scio. The Pirates will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Loggers at 4:30 p.m. Dayton is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

Dayton fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Scio on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Loggers by a score of 5-4.

For Scio's part, Arley LeBard made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. LeBard also tossed a walk, which is notable because Scio is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-7 otherwise. LeBard was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Liam Fitzwater tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Carter Flack was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Haydin Tibbs, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Scio kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Dayton now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Scio, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-8.
