Preview: Eastern Randolph Wildcats vs. Mount Airy Granite Bears
Eastern Randolph has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Mount Airy Granite Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Eastern Randolph had no problem doing just that on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 40-19 margin over the Bulldogs. Eastern Randolph's victory was all the more impressive since Thomasville was averaging only 13.54 points allowed on the season.
Carter Revelle was his usual excellent self, throwing for 210 yards and two touchdowns while completing 82.4% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground.
Meanwhile, Mount Airy put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Murphy 64-26 at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Mount Airy just coasted through the last quarter.
Tyler Mason continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 262 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries. Mason hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Taeshon Martin was another major influence, as he rushed for 78 yards and ran in a TD.
Eastern Randolph has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 12-1 record. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.9 points per game. As for Mount Airy, their victory bumped their record up to 13-0.
Eastern Randolph lost to Mount Airy on the road by a decisive 35-17 margin in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Can Eastern Randolph avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
