Basketball Recap: Downers Grove North Snaps 11-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

If Downers Grove North was riding high fresh off their 49-17 takedown of Proviso West on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Downers Grove North Trojans took a 43-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lyons Lions on Saturday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 40-23 back in December of 2024.

Downers Grove North's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Campbell Thulin, who posted 13 points and five boards. Thulin is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Abby Gross was another key player, putting up six points.

Downers Grove North's defeat ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-6. As for Lyons, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-1.

Downers Grove North and Lyons should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Downers Grove North (ranked 65th) will meet Oak Park-River Forest (ranked 468th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Lyons (ranked fourth) will meet Glenbard West (ranked 73rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
