Softball Game Preview: Eastern Tech Mavericks vs. Sparrows Point Pointers

The Eastern Tech Mavericks will head out to challenge the Sparrows Point Pointers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, Eastern Tech turned things around against Dundalk on Monday. They blew past the Owls 21-7. That looming 21-7 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Mavericks yet this season.

Meanwhile, Sparrows Point gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Carver A&T. The win continues a trend for the Pointers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.

Annelise Cardoso made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Cardoso was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple.

In other batting news, Maddy Funkhauser and Allie Roberts did most of the damage at the plate: Funkhauser went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Roberts went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kaylie Schleig, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Eastern Tech's record is now 5-10. As for Sparrows Point, their record now sits at 9-4.

Eastern Tech beat Sparrows Point 16-11 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
