Baseball Game Preview: Pioneer Panthers vs. North Miami Warriors

Pioneer and North Miami are an even 5-5 against one another since June of 2015, but likely not for long. The Panthers will host the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Pioneer will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Pioneer is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Culver Community with a sharp 19-6 victory on Friday.

Dawson Eggers and Lane Weldy made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Eggers didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Weldy tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Eggers a new career-high. At bat, Eggers scored two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Weldy scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those stolen bases marked the first that Weldy snagged this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Guffey, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Guffey is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Archie Blickenstaff, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Pioneer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .612. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Culver Community only posted an OBP of .367.

Meanwhile, North Miami lost 18-8 to Bremen on Friday.

Avery Piel made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Floyd, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

North Miami's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Pioneer, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Pioneer couldn't quite get it done against North Miami when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
