Basketball Recap: Riley County Comes Up Short

Riley County lost against St. Marys back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Riley County Falcons came up short against the St. Marys Bears, falling 74-48. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while the Bears are ranked 48th).

Despite the loss, Riley County still got an impressive performance from Eli Harmison, who went 7-for-16 en route to 15 points and six rebounds. Harmison is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Rielyn Woodward, who posted four points and eight assists.

Even though they lost, Riley County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2024.

This is the second loss in a row for Riley County and nudges their season record down to 5-13. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.5 points over those games. As for St. Marys, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riley County will square off against Rossville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Marys, they will take on Silver Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Marys knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Silver Lake likes a good challenge.
