Softball Game Preview: Triad Knights vs. Jersey Panthers

Triad has won five straight games at home, while Jersey has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Knights will host the Panthers at 4:30 p.m.

Triad fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Waterloo on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Knights have suffered against the Bulldogs since April 12, 2022.

Triad saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lil Lintz, who went 1-for-4 with one run.

Meanwhile, Jersey never let their opponents score on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Civic Memorial 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted against the Eagles since May 25, 2022.

The result came thanks to Paxton Weirich's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

Jersey is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-12-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Triad, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-9.

Triad came out on top in a nail-biter against Jersey in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
