Soccer Game Preview: Newsome vs. Gaither

The Newsome Wolves will challenge the Gaither Cowboys at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Newsome is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 4.3 goals per game this season.

Gaither is hoping to do what Plant couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to Newsome's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Newsome's defense stepped up to hand Plant a 1-0 shutout. Give Wolves' defense some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Mario Lamelas, which was the first he's scored this season.

Meanwhile, Gaither's and Hillsborough's contest on Tuesday was close at halftime, but Gaither turned on the heat in the second half with four goals. Gaither was the clear victor by a 5-0 margin over Hillsborough. The result was nothing new for the Cowboys, who have now won four matches by four goals or more so far this season.

The victory got Gaither back to even at 5-5. As for Newsome, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.

Newsome beat Gaither by a goal when the teams last played back in December of 2019, winning 1-0. Will Newsome repeat their success, or does Gaither have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
