Basketball Recap: Desert Pines Jaguars vs. Cheyenne Desert Shields

Desert Pines had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They really took it to the Cheyenne Desert Shields for the full four quarters, racking up a 64-29 win. With the Jaguars ahead 40-13 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Desert Pines had a senior duo take command as Taveah Oliver went 9 for 19 en route to 21 points plus six steals and Mya Harper went 5 for 10 en route to 15 points plus three steals. Another player making a difference was Aliyah Holman, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.

Desert Pines smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cheyenne only pulled down five.

Cheyenne lost on Monday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Noelle Schraw, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackie Soncini, who posted eight points in addition to six assists and six rebounds.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Desert Pines Jaguars face off against the Palo Verde Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cheyenne, they and Legacy will face off at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Legacy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Cheyenne likes a good challenge.
