Dan River and Chatham are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Dan River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Dan River's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Gretna as they made off with a 13-0 win. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 22, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Lucy Isom looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bayleigh Merricks, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenley Cundiff, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
Dan River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Chatham fell victim to William Campbell and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Generals, falling 19-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Cavaliers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Dan River's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Chatham, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.
Chatham's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Dan River has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Chatham, though, as they've been averaging 12.3 hits. Given Dan River's sizable advantage in that area, the Cavaliers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Dan River got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April against Chatham by a conclusive 17-6 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
