Softball Recap: Bishop Blanchet Takes a Loss

Bishop Blanchet dropped their record down to 10-4 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 22-12 to the Garfield Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bears have suffered since May 14, 2024.

As for Garfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.9 runs.

For Garfield's part, Sammy Breckenridge looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Breckenridge has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Garfield got a massive performance out of Joie Cunningham, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That's the most RBI Cunningham has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Washington, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop Blanchet will take on Roosevelt at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Garfield, they will square off against Sedro-Woolley at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Cubs have now posted at least ten runs in their last six matchups.
