Preview: Fruita Monument Wildcats vs. Broomfield Eagles

Fruita Monument has been on the road for five straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Broomfield Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Thursday, Fruita Monument got themselves on the board against Aurora Central, but Aurora Central never followed suit. They breezed by the Trojans on the road to the tune of 54-0. Given Fruita Monument's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Aurora Central is ranked 156th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fruita Monument haved a senior duo take command as Amari Wilson rushed for 65 yards and two touchdowns and Andres Palafox gained 102 total yards and two touchdowns. Wilson is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last six games he's played.

Meanwhile, Broomfield had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They claimed a resounding 56-8 victory over Adams City on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 44-0.

Among those leading the charge was Caleb Meehan, who rushed for 59 yards and two touchdowns. Brendan Fritch made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Fruita Monument's win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.5 points per game. Broomfield has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

Fruita Monument came up short against Broomfield in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 21-14. Thankfully for Fruita Monument, Cole Lacrue (who rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 186 yards and a touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
