Volleyball Game Preview: Marquette Mustangs vs. Lafayette Lancers

Marquette is 1-9 against Lafayette since October of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Lancers at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Marquette picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They walked away with a 2-0 win over Grain Valley.

Meanwhile, Lafayette entered their tilt with Lindbergh on Wednesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Flyers with a sharp 3-0 victory.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-19, 25-9.

Marquette better focus on containing Aubrey Dumstorff and Addy Wiese as the pair were huge in Lafayette's win. Dumstorff had 18 digs and three assists, while Wiese had 16 digs and six assists. Wiese has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more digs the last nine times she's played. Alexa Hastings also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Lafayette was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That's the most aces they've posted in their last six contests.

Marquette's record now sits at 13-10. As for Lafayette, their record is now 19-1.

Marquette suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Lafayette when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
