Softball Game Preview: Springtown Porcupines vs. Castleberry Lions

Springtown has gone 9-1 against Castleberry recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Porcupines will be playing at home against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. Castleberry took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Springtown, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, Springtown got the win against Bridgeport by a conclusive 10-3. The Porcupines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Kylee Spray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Riley Fagan was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Ryleigh Morris, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Castleberry's offense. They lost 10-0 to Eagle Mountain on Tuesday. The shutout was out of character for the Lions seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

Castleberry saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cassandra Martinez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Springtown is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Castleberry, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 16 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-18-1 record this season.

Everything went Springtown's way against Castleberry when the teams last played back in March, as Springtown made off with a 15-3 win. Do the Porcupines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
