Softball Recap: Gibson County Takes a Loss

After a string of three wins, Gibson County's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They lost 13-7 to the Ripley Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Pioneers have suffered since March 10th.

Andrea Criswell was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Haley Mingle and Joliegh McVay did some serious damage despite the final result: Mingle went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while McVay went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Gibson County's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9-1. As for Ripley, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-9-1.

Gibson County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Ripley, they will face off against Covington at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
