Basketball Recap: Montezuma-Cortez Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Montezuma-Cortez). They walked away with a 78-69 win over the Rehoboth Christian Lynx on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.

Leading Montezuma-Cortez to victory were Trey Hall and Caidin Leonard. Hall went 8 for 13 on his way to 23 points and six steals, while Leonard posted 20 points and four steals. Those six steals gave Hall a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tay Wheat, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 12 points.

Montezuma-Cortez smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Montezuma-Cortez's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Rehoboth Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

After both having extra time off, Montezuma-Cortez and Durango will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Montezuma-Cortez knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Durango likes a good challenge. As for Rehoboth Christian, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Shiprock at 2:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
