Basketball Recap: Zach Montgomery's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cornerstone Christian Academy over Asheboro Hybrid Academy

After flying high against Abundant Life Christian Academy last Monday, Cornerstone Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Cornerstone Christian Academy Crusaders took a 67-50 bruising from the Asheboro Hybrid Academy Warriors on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 63-29 back in December of 2024.

Cornerstone Christian Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zach Montgomery, who posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Leo Diaz, who put up nine points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Cornerstone Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Cornerstone Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Asheboro Hybrid Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-9.

Looking ahead, Cornerstone Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against UR Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. UR Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season. As for Asheboro Hybrid Academy, they will also get right back to it: they'll challenge Gospel Light Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Asheboro Hybrid Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches.
