The East Moline United Panthers will head out to face off against the Macomb Bombers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. East Moline United is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
East Moline United will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Quincy on Wednesday. The Panthers won by a run and slipped past the Blue Devils 10-9. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Panthers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Issac Roman was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in 14 consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, East Moline United got a massive performance out of Zach Darras, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits Darras has posted since back in April. Dominic Stottler was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
East Moline United was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Quincy only posted a batting average of .300.
Meanwhile, Macomb entered their tilt with Illini West on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Chargers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bombers have posted since April 11th.
Nick Elbe and Drew Watson did most of the damage at the plate: Elbe went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI, while Watson went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Ogle, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
East Moline United has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Macomb, they pushed their record up to 10-13 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.
East Moline United took their victory against Macomb in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
