Basketball Recap: Tamia Cheeks' Big Game Can't Quite Lead South over Maize South

After flying high against Maize last Tuesday, South came back down to earth. The South Cougars lost 62-40 to the Maize South Mavericks on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Mavericks are ranked 22nd).

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tamia Cheeks, who posted nine points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brylee Moss, who scored nine points.

South dropped their record down to 4-4 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Maize South, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Haysville Campus the next time they take the court. Maize South will head out to face Haysville Campus at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while South will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on January 27th.
